WELL HOUSE REUNION OCTOBER 14
Imagine living in Nevada in the year 1911. There was no televisions, radio, telephones or automobiles. Most people lived on farms and came into town for the purpose of trade, shopping, banking, etc. A familiar site for citizens as they came onto the town square was the Nevada Well House. The well was dug for the purpose of being used by the entire town.
Business owners around the square used the water from the well daily to mop floors and sidewalks. and locals to refresh horses after the long ride into town. There was a large ladle that hung from a rope where you could quench your thrust on a hot summer day.
If the Well House could talk, you would here about a time of bustling businesses that surrounded the square, children playing hop scotch and marbles, ladies quilting and canning fruits and vegetables and men working hard on their farms and businesses to provide for their families. Everyone pulled their weight and life was good.
If the Well House could talk, you would here about a terrible night in 1927 when the sky turned black and the winds of a cyclone roared through the city destroying peoples houses, businesses, hopes and dreams. But the worst was the loss of twenty-three lives that day. By the time the storm had completed its wrath, the only structures left standing were a few homes, the Baptist and Methodist Church and the Well House.
YOU CAN HELP REBUILD THE WELL HOUSE
Today this icon is still standing, but is in a sad and distressed state of dilapidation. Please join us at the NevadaFest on October 14th,
10-3pm at the Old Well House. You will have the opportunity to see pictures, a model of the town square and Well House as it use to be, make donations and purchase engraved bricks that will be used to form a path way from the road to the new Well House. For more details and information on how you can help, call Janet Hargett at 972 843-5225 or Nevada City Hall at
972 853-0027

HOUSE ADDRESSING
On March 7th, 2006 the City Council passed Ordinance No. 06-02 Requiring all homes and businesses in the city to have physical address numbers. If your home or business is 50 feet or less from the street, the numbers must be displayed in the vicinity of the front door or entry (lighted if possible but not required). If your home or business is more than 50 feet from the street, the numbers must be displayed on a post, fence wall or mail box adjacent to the walk or access drive to the residence or structure.
